Santorini is one of those places you think you’ve “seen” online… until you’re actually there and the light hits the cliffs and suddenly everything feels unreal. I went expecting crowds and photo spots (true), but what I didn’t expect was how easy it was to find quiet little moments in between—especially if you plan your days around the rhythm of the island instead of the timeline of Instagram.
Where I stayed (and why I’d do it again)
If you want the classic cliffside view, Oia and Imerovigli are the dreamy picks. Oia is stunning but busy, while Imerovigli feels calmer and still gives you that jaw-dropping caldera view. Fira is convenient (more transport + nightlife), and Perissa/Kamari are better if you’d rather be near beaches and keep costs lower. I stayed in a small boutique spot with a terrace, and honestly… the terrace became the main activity.
My “do this, not that” Santorini plan
Early mornings are everything here. I did Oia before 9am and it felt like a different island—quiet lanes, fresh bakery smells, and views without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd. Midday is for slow lunches, shade, and a swim. Late afternoons are perfect for exploring Fira’s little lanes or strolling the caldera path.
If you’re choosing one “big” activity, I loved a boat trip that included a swim stop and a sunset moment on the water. It’s the easiest way to get that “I’m in a movie” feeling without hiking in the heat.
Best things I ate (no gatekeeping)
Santorini is all about simple, fresh, and salty in the best way. I’m still thinking about tomato fritters, grilled seafood, and the kind of Greek salad that makes you wonder why it never tastes like that at home. If you can, plan one long lunch with a view. Don’t rush it. This island does “slow” so well.
Sunset tips (because yes, it matters)
Oia sunset is iconic, but it’s not the only option. For something calmer, pick a terrace restaurant, a viewpoint in Imerovigli, or even a quiet corner in Fira. The best sunset is the one you don’t spend an hour fighting for.
Quick Jasmine checklist
- Go early, nap midday, explore late
- Stay in Imerovigli if you want calm + views
- Book one boat trip
- Eat the tomato fritters (non-negotiable)
Santorini is worth it—especially when you let it be soft, slow, and a little spontaneous.
